December 8th Meeting at The METS Center!

Ohio Valley LIG and IT Leadership Forum

Greetings all!

Hope you all are staying warm as mother nature begins reminding us Midwesterners that winter is just around the corner.  Thankfully, at least some of us had the opportunity to warm up in the cozy walls of Bellarmine University last month for another fantastic meeting!  We heard from a couple members of the lead team about their experiences at Fusion, had an excellent panel of folks explaining the value they get out of membership with itSMF, learned about Cloud Computing from Gail Noren of Cherwell Software, and applied the Six Thinking Hats approach to identify opportunities for growing the itSMF and Academia relationship with our friends at the Bellarmine and Indiana University Student Interest Groups.  All told, it was a great meeting, and another wonderful opportunity for us to all interact with our friends in the industry.

Coming up on December 8th is our year-end meeting just across the river from Cincinnati at the METS Center in Northern Kentucky, and I’m here to tell ya it’s gonna be a doozy.  Definitely mark your calendars for this one, as we’re pulling out all the stops with a presentation from Glenn O’Donnell of Forrester Research on Self Service (among other topics) and a simply excellent lunch.  Also, Rich Kurz of Blue Spring Software has offered to become a “Friend of the LIG” by sponsoring our next gathering, providing lunch for us all as well as an interactive demo of their Visio-based ProcessView Simulation technology.  Lastly we’ll engage in the itSMF White Paper International Challenge focusing on ‘How does the new push for Self Service affect ITSM programs?” So please, set aside some time to come hang out with your peers, have a great meal, and take away some intelligent, useful points from our last meeting of 2011.  It’s been a great ride this year, and we aim to keep it running full speed from here.

To that end, let’s talk a sec about the incoming and resuming members of next year’s lead team!  We’ve got some great volunteers to fill all of the open positions created by those who have reached the end of their term, as you’ll see below.  Please take a moment to thank these folks for offering their services at our next meeting, as we close out quite possibly the OV LIG’s best year yet, with full intentions of topping it in 2012!

  • President: Theresa Collins
  • President-Elect: Joan Coolidge
  • Programs Chair: Carol Hibbard
  • Membership Chair: Paul Howard
  • Secretary: Rich Mathews
  • Treasurer:  Bryan Bain

  • Thanks to outgoing Mike Gribbins and Melody Woolum!

Meeting Details – October 27th at Bellarmine University!

Ohio Valley LIG and IT Leadership Forum

Greetings all!

The next meeting of our 2011 LIG of the Year (shameless plug) is just around the corner on October 27th!  Our friends in the Bellarmine University Student LIG are hosting the festivities this time, and are sharing in the presentation of the program.  Our combined forces have been busy shaping up the kind of fun, informative, and interactive session that you’ve hopefully come to expect from this group over the course of the year.  So if you haven’t already, mark those calendars, check out the link below to RSVP, and plan on coming out in a couple weeks!

If you’d like a little sneak preview of what’s to come, here’s what we’re cooking up for the meeting thus far.  After our standard introductions, announcements, and the all important lunch, we’ll be having a short panel discussion on the value of itSMF and the Fusion conference.  Following the panel, we’ll be joined by Gail Noren of Cherwell Service Management, who will lead us in a presentation on one of this year’s most widely discussed (and perhaps misunderstood) concepts, Cloud Computing.  This will be a great time to air out any questions we have about intelligent, cost-effective uses of this technology, as well as pit falls to avoid when making the decision on whether or not to go to Cloud.

Last, but certainly not least, the Presidents of both of our Student LIGs (Bellarmine and Indiana University) will host an engaging creative discussion on itSMF and Academia.  The goal is to identify what’s working or not, and to start planning what we can do together in the future for the benefit of everyone involved. This is an excellent opportunity to stretch our creative muscles, and learn new ways to help us through the technical and social challenges present in each day of our careers.

So that’s what’s on the menu folks.  This promises to be another fantastic event, so please remember to click the RSVP link below and let us know that you’ll be attending.  The meeting is free for all members, and just $10 for any non-members who’d like to come along.  So spread the word, and we’ll see you all at 11:30 on the 27th!
